Sarasota County Government will celebrate America Recycles Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, with a free event during which residents and visitors can learn about recycling and other sustainable practices, the county has announced.

Sarasota County staff will host a variety of games and activities, provide a composting demonstration, offer tours of the county landfill aboard the SRQ Trolley and have food available for purchase from Nunn Better BBQ, a news release points out. The event will be held at the Sarasota County Central County Solid Waste Disposal Complex, which is located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis.

The Garbage-Men Band will be performing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the county’s waste vendor, Waste Management, along with the City of Venice, will have recycling trucks available for viewing, the release adds.

Additional event participants will be the City of Sarasota, the City of North Port, local artist Emma Bruno, Precious Plastics, Waste Corporation of America (WCA) and Aria Energy Corp., the release notes.

“As part of the Keep America Beautiful initiative, America Recycles Day, which is Nov. 15, is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the U.S.,” the release explains.

“Can’t make it to the event?” the release asks. “Take the America Recycles Pledge at americarecyclesday.org/pledge.”
