On June 13, Sarasota Memorial Hospital announced plans to build a new pediatric specialty outpatient clinic on the campus of its Sarasota Emergency Room & Health Care Center on Toledo Blade Boulevard in North Port.

The facility, which is expected to open in the first quarter of 2017, will be located at 2345 Bobcat Village Center Road, a news release says.

“For more than 20 years, Sarasota Memorial (SMH) and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital (JHACH) have been collaborating to improve the health of children in the surrounding communities, the release continues. Specialists employed by All Children’s Specialty Physicians have worked with Sarasota Memorial doctors and staff since 1996 “to provide a full continuum of care to children and teens,” the release notes.

In recent months, the two hospitals began exploring ways to expand their clinical relationship and to provide the most frequently needed care for children and teens in a North Port setting that would be convenient for outpatient care, the release explains. The new clinic is a result of those discussions.

The center’s establishment also is expected to facilitate recruitment of physicians needed in “this medically underserved area,” the release says.
