On Sept. 30, Newsweek recognized the Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center among its “America’s Best Nursing Homes 2027,” the Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMH) announced.

“The news organization partnered with respected global data research firm Statista to recognize 1,325 of the nation’s top nursing homes out of nearly 15,000 facilities evaluated,” a news release explains. Top ranked nursing homes were selected based on superior quality and performance indicators, publicly available data from federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), peer recommendations, accreditations and 5-star resident reviews,” the release points out.

“Sarasota Memorial is honored to once again be spotlighted among the nation’s best nursing homes,” said Maria DeCarlo, vice president of Sarasota Memorial Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Services. “This recognition belongs to our incredible staff, whose dedication and compassion are reflected in the care they provide every day,” she added in the release. “From supporting residents and families to helping one another and continually striving to do better, their commitment keeps quality, safety, service and compassionate care at the heart of everything we do.”

Located at 5640 Rand Blvd., the Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center “offers skilled nursing and rehabilitation for people recovering from surgery, injury or illness,” the release explains. “Its multi-disciplinary team cares for approximately 100 residents around the clock, 365 days a year,” the release adds.

“The Newsweek recognition adds to Sarasota Memorial’s record of quality and clinical excellence,” the release further notes. “Earlier this year,” it continues, “U.S. News & World Report recognized the Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center among the nation’s best nursing homes for both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care, and SMH among the nation’s high performing hospitals for specialized rehabilitation care. Health systems and nursing facilities cannot opt out of these annual studies or pay for inclusion on the lists,” the release notes.

“Finding the right nursing home is an important decision for residents and their families, with quality of care, services and facility size among the factors to consider,” Newsweek pointed out in the report and rankings. “The ranking provides a resource for those researching nursing home options, highlighting facilities that demonstrate strong performance within their respective size categories and offering a starting point for families navigating this important choice,” it said.
