Sarasota Opera is seeking male volunteer supernumeraries (supers) for non-speaking roles in its upcoming production of Cavalleria rusticana, the organization has announced.

“Supers will experience the thrill of being on stage in front of a live audience while being part of a world-class opera production,” a news release explains. “Supers often make lifelong friends while participating in the program,” the release adds. “No experience is necessary — just enthusiasm and a commitment to attend all rehearsals and performances,” it says.

The rehearsals are scheduled for Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 (afternoon); Feb. 3 (evening); Feb. 4 (afternoon and evening); Feb. 5 (evening); Feb. 8 (afternoon and evening); Feb. 10 (6 to 10 p.m., orchestra dress rehearsal); and Feb. 12 (6 to 10 p.m., orchestra dress rehearsal), the release continues.

Performances will take place Feb. 15, Feb. 20, Feb 23 (matinee), Feb. 26, March 1 (matinee), March 7, March 11, March 19 (matinee), March 22, and March 29, it adds. Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m., it notes, while matinees begin at 1:30 p.m.

“Supers receive four complimentary tickets for the opera that they are in to share with family and friends,” as well as invitations to the dress rehearsals for the other opera productions in which they are not performing, the release points out.
