Adult victim suffers non-life-threatening injuries

The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, near the intersection of 24th Street and North Osprey Avenue, the agency has announced.

One adult victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, a news release said. “Details are limited as this investigation is ongoing,” the release pointed out.

By count of The Sarasota News Leader, this was the 15th shooting in Newtown, a north Sarasota community, since Jan. 1. Prior to this incident, the most recent one was reported on Oct. 27. That shooting also led to one person’s sustaining non-life-threatening injuries, the Police Department noted at the time.

Anyone who has information regarding the Dec. 9 incident is being asked to “please call Sarasota Police at 941-316-1199.”

“Information that leads to an arrest is eligible for a cash reward,” the release says.
