The leaders of the Sarasota Police Department are inviting residents to participate in the Citizens Academy, which will begin in late September and continue through mid-November.

“The Citizens Academy offers a unique opportunity to understand the inner workings of the Sarasota Police Department,” a news release says. “Through informative sessions and interactive activities, participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of police operations, procedures, and community partnerships,” the release adds.

The eight-week course is scheduled to meet every Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. starting Sept. 27 and concluding on Nov. 15. “This convenient timing ensures participants can balance their daily commitments while learning about the vital role law enforcement plays in our community,” the release notes.

“Whether you’re a curious individual, a concerned citizen, or someone considering a career in law enforcement, this academy is for you!” the release adds. “Engage in discussions with experienced officers, learn about investigative techniques, and explore the challenges and rewards of ensuring public safety.”

To secure a spot in the program, send an email expressing interest to SPDcitizensacademy@sarasotafl.gov. “Please act promptly, as spaces are limited,” the release points out.
