Sheriff Hoffman swears in newest recruits as Corrections Division deputies
On Wednesday, Sept. 2, Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman announced the graduation of the Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Corrections Training Academy’s sixth class.
The five newest recruits of the Courts and Corrections Division gathered at the Sheriff’s Office headquarters on Cattleridge Road in Sarasota “to celebrate with family, friends and agency members,” a news release says. Their graduation followed completion of “their extensive academy curriculum,” during which “the recruits were instructed in physical fitness, firearms, defensive tactics, first aid,” legal issues, officer safety, and correctional supervision, the release points out.
“In addition, they trained in emergency response” and communications, and they were made familiar with the agency’s facility and equipment, the release adds.
“It is an honor to welcome our sixth graduating class from the SCSO Corrections Basic Recruit Academy,” said Sheriff Hoffman in the release. “It’s exciting to welcome these five recruits, and it is a great accomplishment for our agency to be able to provide their training and education from the very start of their career in corrections.”
These deputies also were sworn by Hoffman during the ceremony, the release notes. They will be assigned to the Corrections Bureau, it adds, where they will continue their training.
The five graduates are class president and Corrections Deputy Joshua Northrop, Corrections Deputy Janell Morales-Monroy, Corrections Deputy Christopher Koennemann, Corrections Deputy Danyel Kent and Corrections Deputy Denis Gunic.
