More than 17,000 U.S. employees of health care and social welfare providers surveyed

On Sept. 25, Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMH) won recognition in Forbes’ inaugural list of America’s Best Employers for Healthcare Professionals, Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) staff announced.
In collaboration with Statista, Forbes produced the list “following an independent survey of more than 17,000 U.S. employees” working for health care and social welfare providers that employ at least 1,000 people within the United States, a news release explain. “Participants rated their employers on personal recommendations” and criteria such as wages, working conditions and schedules, career advancement opportunities and safety, the release adds. “The scoring system factored in additional surveys that identified sustained performance over the past three years,” it says.
“Ultimately, 250 healthcare organizations, including SMH, made the list of top-ranked employers in 2025,” the release points out. Sarasota Memorial was ranked among the top five health care employers in Florida, the release notes, and it was the only health care employer recognized in the Suncoast region.
“With more than 10,000 employees, SMH is the largest employer in Sarasota County and among the largest in southwest Florida,” the release says. “Founded in 1925, the community-owned hospital long has had the vision “to the best place to be a patient, the best place to work and the best place to practice medicine,” the release adds. “Sarasota Memorial CEO David Verinder said the organization owes its reputation and success to its dedicated team and their unwavering public mission,” the release continues.
“Throughout Sarasota Memorial’s 100-year history, people have always been our health system’s greatest asset,” Verinder added. “We are especially proud to receive this award during SMH’s centennial and recognize our team’s contributions and commitment to the community we serve.”
“Today’s recognition adds to SMH’s growing list of workplace awards, including earning top honors in Forbes’ lists of America’s Best-in-State Employers and Best Employers for Women in 2025, and Gallup’s Exceptional Workplace Award in March 2025, the release notes.
