More than 100 Southside Elementary School students are set to take the stage at The Players Theatre Tuesday, May 22, and Wednesday, May 23, to perform the school musical, “The Aristocats,” the Sarasota County Public Schools District has announced.

The play is adapted from a 1970 Disney movie about the adventures of a family of Parisian cats trying to make their way home from the countryside.

Each performance of “The Aristocats” begins at 7 p.m. A limited number of tickets are available from the box office at 365-2494. The first ticket is $10, while a second ticket is available at no extra cost.

The Players Theatre is located at 838 N. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.

Southside Elementary and The Players Theatre have been engaged in a partnership through which Southside has provided The Players with rehearsal space and The Players has provided the school the use of the theater for the student musical, a district news release notes.

In the news release, Southside Principal Steve Dragon also noted how proud he is that Southside is one of the two elementary schools in the district offering all students instruction in all four of the major art forms. Every one of the 725 Southside students receives instruction in dance, drama, music and the visual arts.

Southside’s “All the Arts for All the Kids” program is supported by supplemental funding from the school’s PTA and foundation, the news release notes.

The other district school offering all the arts to every student is Gocio Elementary, in north Sarasota
