Supervisor of elections invites scholarship applications

Students must meet specific criteria for the $1,200 award

Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner is accepting applications for a $1,200 scholarship that will be awarded by the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections (FSASE) in 2018, his office has announced.

The scholarship will go to a college/university junior or senior enrolled or accepted as a full-time student at an accredited Florida university or college, a news release explains.

To be eligible, an applicant must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Be a political science, public or business administration, or journalism/mass communications major;
  • Have finished two years of junior college or undergraduate work and have enough credits for enrollment as a junior;
  • Have been a resident of Florida for at least two years preceding the academic year for which the application is being made, and
  • Be registered to vote.

Additional eligibility requirements are listed on the application and in the scholarship guidelines, which are available online at www.SarasotaVotes.com, the release notes. Applications also may be picked up at the Supervisor of Elections Office, located on the seventh floor of the Terrace Building at 101 S. Washington Blvd. in Sarasota.

Completed applications must be received by Thursday, March 29, the release stresses. They may be delivered in person or by mail to Supervisor of Elections, PO Box 4194, Sarasota, FL 34230-4194.
