Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner is accepting applications for a $1,200 scholarship to be awarded this year by the Florida Supervisors of Elections Association (FSE), Turner’s staff announced this week.

The FSE is offering a total of three scholarships to eligible college/university juniors and seniors who have been residents of Florida for at least the past two years and who are registered to vote in the county in which they will be applying for the scholarship, a news release explains.

To be eligible, an applicant must meet the following criteria, the release adds:

  • Being enrolled or having been accepted as a full-time student in a senior college or university in Florida.
  • Having maintained a “C” average or above the previous school year.
  • Having chosen a major in political science, public administration, business administration, journalism or mass communication.

Additional eligibility requirements are listed on the application and in the scholarship guidelines, which are available online at SarasotaVotes.gov. Applications also may be picked up at any of the following elections offices, the release adds:

  • Sarasota County Terrace Building, which stands at 2001 Adams Lane in downtown Sarasota.
  • R.L. Anderson Administration Center, which is located at 4000 Tamiami Trail S. in Venice.
  • Biscayne Plaza, which is located at 13640 Tamiami Trail in North Port.

The deadline to apply for a scholarship is March 7, the release points out. “Applications must be submitted to the elections office of the county in which the applicant is registered to vote,” the release says. They may be delivered in-person to any one of the elections offices listed above or mailed to Supervisor of Elections, PO Box 4194, Sarasota, FL 34230-4194, the release adds.
