As the contractor dredging the 10th Street Boat Basin advances toward the boat ramps, all six boat ramps at the 10th Street Boat Ramp will be closed Monday, Oct. 9, through Thursday, Oct. 12, the City of Sarasota has announced.

All ramps are scheduled to reopen on Friday, Oct. 13, a news release says.

Access this week has been limited to two to four of the ramps as the basin initiative has progressed, the release points out.

Boaters are encouraged to use the next closest boat ramp, which is in the city limits at Ken Thompson Park.

Over the years, the 10th Street Boat Basin has filled with silt, the release explains, so dredging is necessary for the health of Sarasota Bay and to maintain marine navigation.

The project is approximately at the halfway point; it is expected to be completed in January 2018, the release says.
