The Haven, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 1954, has purchased a 3-acre property “in the heart of University Town Center” that will be home to an innovative program “that aims to enhance the lives of adults with disabilities,” the organization has announced.

“This new community will include a range of living options,” with two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes among them, a news release points out. The goal, the release adds, is “to provide a safe and inclusive community for individuals seeking independence and support.”

The houses will be designed to face the center of the development, “to emphasize front-porch living [and] connecting with your neighbors,” the release notes. The community also will include “a spacious clubhouse with a gym, game room and theatre,” the release says.

Residents will be within walking distance of the Mall at University Town Center, Nathan Benderson Park and its internationally known rowing facility, the Mote Marine Science Education Aquarium under construction, “and countless restaurants and entertainment choices,” the release continues.

As the community will be a short distance from The Haven’s main, 32-acre campus, the release adds, residents will be able to “benefit from 24/7 staff support. This proximity ensures that our community members are always connected and cared for,” the release points out.

“The Haven Residences at UTC will be privately owned and operated, ensuring personalized care and a sense of ownership and independence for our residents,” said The Haven President and CEO Brad Jones in the release.

“The land purchase was made possible thanks to a generous donation from the Shapiro family,” the release notes.
