Two more shootings reported over past week, with investigations underway by Sarasota Police Department and Sheriff’s Office

One person killed in county incident

Over the past week, both the Sarasota Police Department and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office have been investigating new shooting incidents, the agencies have announced, with one person reported killed in the county case.

On Aug 18, the Police Department said that a shooting had occurred shortly after 6 p.m. near the intersection of 31st Street and North Osprey Avenue. “There are no reported injuries,” a news release noted, adding, “This incident is still under investigation.”

The location is west of Washington Boulevard, a map shows.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Sarasota Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 941-263-6070, leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 941-366-TIPS, or going online at www.sarasotacrimestoppers.com, the news release added.

Then, on Aug. 20, the Sheriff’s Office reported a shooting that had occurred at 1:30 a.m. in the 2600 block of Twin Drive in Sarasota.

“One person was shot and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” that news release said. “All parties involved are accounted for and there is no threat to the public at this time,” it added.

The 2600 block of Twin Drive is just north of Myrtle Street, west of North Tuttle Avenue and east of U.S. 301, a map shows.

No further information was available about either case prior to the deadline for publication of this issue of The Sarasota News Leader.
