Free aid available to individuals and families with incomes up to $74,000
The United Way of South Sarasota County’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free federal income tax preparation for individuals and families with a yearly
household income of up to $74,000, the United Way is reminding the public.
“Tax preparation is completed by IRS-certified preparers and is by appointment only,” a news release notes.
“Many members of the community are in financial distress this year and need all the assistance they can get,” the release points out. Using the VITA program can save taxpayers between $200 and $500 on tax preparation costs, and they gain tax credits and refunds, the release adds.
Appointments may be scheduled at one of the United Way of South County’s three VITA locations — in Venice, North Port or
Englewood — the release adds. “You can schedule your appointment today by visiting www.uwssc.org/vita,” the release adds.
The three VITA sites will operate from Feb. 1 through April 18, the release notes.
“You must come to your appointment with the necessary documents,” the release explains. “Without these documents, your appointment is subject to being rescheduled.” Persons who wish to schedule appointments may visit www.uwssc.org/vita for a full list of materials they must bring with them, the release says.
Anyone with questions about the VITA assistance may contact Teri Andrews, director of programs, at tandrews@uwssc.org or by calling 941-484-4811, Ext. 104.
