5 p.m. on Aug. 6 the deadline to request vote-by-mail ballot

Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner announced on July 9 that 71,268 mail ballots were being sent out to domestic voters in the initial mailing for the Aug. 18 Primary Election.
The ballots are in the mail to registered Sarasota County voters who have a vote-by-mail request on file with the elections office, Turner noted in a news release. The domestic mailing follows the mailing of ballots last week to registered military members and overseas voters with requests on file, the release adds.
“Voting by mail is a safe, secure and convenient way to vote in Sarasota County,” Turner said in the release. “We’ve made that process even easier with step-by-step instructions for returning mail ballots,” he continued. “Voters may visit SarasotaVotes.gov/Instructions to review the instructions and help ensure an efficient mail ballot experience.”
Turner also is reminding voters that they have until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, to request a ballot be mailed to them for the coming election, the release points out.
A voter may request a vote-by-mail ballot in one of the following ways, the release adds:
- Online at SarasotaVotes.gov/VotebyMail.
- In person at any of three elections offices — in Sarasota, Venice or North Port.
- By phone — 941-861-8618.
“Voted ballots may be returned by mail or in person to the supervisor of elections but must be received in the elections office no later than 7 p.m. on election night to be counted,” Turner emphasized in the release. Moreover, he pointed out, a mail ballot voter must sign the certificate on the ballot return envelope, and the signature should match the signature on file.
A voter may update his or her signature at any time by submitting a new Florida Voter Registration Application to the elections office, the release notes.
