Extended hours for Clerk of Court’s offices in Venice and Sarasota to be offered late this month
This month, Karen E. Rushing, Sarasota County clerk of the Circuit Court and county comptroller, is hosting her annual Operation Green Light events to help customers with suspended driver’s licenses pay overdue court obligations, including traffic tickets, while saving up to 30% in collection agency fees, her staff has announced.
“We realize money is tight these days,” Rushing said in a news release. “With Operation Green Light,” she continued, “we are not only waiving collection agency fees, which results in real savings, we’re helping customers establish affordable payment plans to make ends meet. For those who want to comply with the law,” she added, “it’s a valuable service to our community.”
The Sarasota County Clerk and Comptroller’s office will provide extended hours for the public on March 23 and 24, to facilitate the payments, the release notes. On Thursday, March 23, and Friday, March 24, the Clerk’s Office at the South County Courthouse in Venice — located at 4004 S. Tamiami Trail — will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Additionally, on Saturday, March 25, the Clerk’s Office in the historic county courthouse — located at 2000 Main St. in downtown Sarasota — will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the release says.
Customers with infractions that occurred in Sarasota County are eligible to take part in the events, with no appointments required, the release points out.
Customers need to bring with them their driver’s licenses and — if they have them — their case numbers, as well as a check, cash or credit card for payment, the release adds.
A 3.5% non-refundable processing fee will be added to each credit card transaction, the release notes.
