First to be held on Aug. 8 at public library in Venice
“Democracy works best when people show up,” the League of Women Voters of Sarasota County points out.
“And the League is not leaving that to chance!” a news release stresses. In addition to the organization’s “#BE Counted!” get-out-the-vote social media campaign, the League plans to host three Family-Friendly Voter Information Fairs throughout the county, the release says.
The first event, scheduled for Aug. 8, will honor the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and support “the National League’s goal of activating 8.5 million voters before the midterms,” the release continues.
It will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 8 at the William H. Jervey, Jr. Venice Public Library, which stands at 300 Nokomis Avenue S. in Venice. The event will feature the following, the release explains:
- “Short talks on what every voter should know before Election Day.
- “One-on-one voter registration assistance.
- “Personalized sample ballot assistance on the League’s on-line voter guide — VOTE411.org.
- “Review of voter ID requirements.”
- Easy-to-understand information on ballot amendments.
- Fun, interactive activities for children and adults.
- “Free raffle drawing.
- “Light refreshments.”
The other two fairs are scheduled as follows, the release adds:
- Sept. 19, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Shannon Staub Library, which stands at 4675 Career Lane in North Port.
- Oct. 3, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Gulf Gate Library, which is located at 7112 Curtiss Ave. in Sarasota.
“Registration is not required,” the release points out. All voters are invited to come when they can” and stay as long as they like, the release adds. They also are urged to bring family members, friends and neighbors, the release says. For more information go to lwvsrq.org.
