The staff of the Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department (PRNR) is inviting the public “to get behind the wheel at the 30th annual Big Truck Day,” which will return to CoolToday Park in Wellen Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 18.

“The free event will feature more than 40 big trucks, specialty equipment and heavy machinery, giving children and adults the opportunity to explore them up close,” a news release explains.

In addition to the truck displays, attendees will be able to “enjoy crafts, pedal cars, inflatables, a live DJ and hands-on learning activities with Suncoast Remake Learning Days,” the release says.

Tours of CoolToday Park also will be available, the release adds.

“Big Truck Day gives kids a chance to get up close to the trucks they see every day and wonder about,” said Sarah Bunkley, Sarasota County Recreation and Neighborhood Parks Division manager, in the release. “With hands-on learning, ballpark tours and family activities, it has become a tradition for families across our community,” Bunkley added of the event.

“A sensory-friendly start will take place from 9 to 9:30 a.m., during which horns will be silenced to create a more comfortable environment,” the release notes.

Food will be available for purchase, the release says.

CoolToday Park is located at 18800 W. Villages Parkway in Venice. The event is supported by sponsors CoolToday, Suncoast Remake Learning Days and New Balance Sarasota, the release points out.
