On Jan. 26, the Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources Department will reinstate Sunday operating hours at the Selby and Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda public libraries, county staff is reminding the public.

These libraries will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. every Sunday, a news release points out.

Sarasota County has not offered Sunday library hours since 2012, when the County Commission had to enact cost-saving measures to balance budgets in the wake of the Great Recession. This reinstatement of service has been planned as a means of increasing library access to residents and students, the release adds.

The County Commission agreed to the proposal during budget discussions for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1, 2019.

“Small celebrations with refreshments are planned at both libraries on Jan. 26 to mark the reinstatement of Sunday hours,” the release notes.

Selby Public Library is located 1331 First St. in Sarasota; it is served by Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) Route 2. Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Public Library is located at 4143 Woodmere Park Blvd. in Venice.
