Crews plan to wrap up the water main replacement project along Orange Avenue this week, working between 19th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, City Manager Tom Barwin announced in his Dec. 6 newsletter.

To enable the milling and repaving of that portion of Orange Avenue in North Sarasota, the northbound lane will be closed first, Barwin noted; then, the crew will address the southbound lane and the intersection of Orange Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

From Dec. 10 through Dec. 13, traffic along that stretch of Orange Avenue will be reduced to one lane, with two-way traffic maintained by flaggers, Barwin continued. Traffic at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way will be detoured via 25th Street, he added.

“This has been a lengthy but necessary improvement project to enhance the reliability and safety of the City’s water system,” Barwin explained. “We appreciate the community’s patience enduring the rough patches” on Orange Avenue during the construction, he wrote.
