On April 29, Sarasota County staff announced that, as part of the county’s “continued effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community, the following actions are effective immediately [emphasis in the notice]”:

  • “All county special events and reservations are cancelled through May 17.
  • “Utilities fees and service shutoffs are suspended through May 31.”

The utilities information extended a March 18 county administrative decision. On that day, a county news release said water service shut-offs for non-payment of bills would be waived through April 13.

On its COVID-19 information pages, the City of Sarasota has reminded its residents that water shut-off procedures “are temporarily suspended for customers having payment issues.” However, the city notice adds that customers “are encouraged to make payments” to the extent possible.

“The City’s system automatically calls, emails and texts all accounts that are past due, so please do not be alarmed by these calls,” the city webpage adds. “At this time, they are reminders only.”

The city website also offers the following payment options:

  • Call 941-263-6260 and use the automated payment system.
  • Pay online at www.SarasotaFL.gov by electronic check or credit card.
  • A drop box is located at 1761 12th St., at the east end of the parking lot, for check or money order payments or written correspondence.
  • “Payments can be mailed to PO Box 31510, Tampa FL, 33631-3510.
  • “Cash payments can be made at any Amscot location.”

While the Water Billing Office is temporarily closed to the public, the city webpage notes, staff members still are working; they are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone with a question or concern is asked to call 941-263-6260 or email UtilityBill@SarasotaFL.gov.
