Visitors to beaches asked to ‘pack out’ items they take with them to the shore and to use garbage and recycling receptacles
City of Sarasota administrative offices and most Sarasota County government offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5, in observation of Labor Day, city and county staff have announced.
Garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulk waste collection will be collected one day later for the remainder of the week for both city and county customers, according to news releases.
Hours of operation at City of Sarasota recreational facilities will vary on the holiday as follows:
- Bobby Jones Golf Club: open regular hours, from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Children’s Fountain: open regular hours, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Fall hours will begin Tuesday, Sept. 6: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
- Lido Pool: closed as usual on Mondays.
- Robert L. Taylor Community Complex: open 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
The Payne Park Tennis Center in downtown Sarasota will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 5, a county news release points out.
The regular City Commission meeting will be held one day later, on Tuesday, Sept. 6, with sessions at 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County and all Sarasota County libraries and recreation centers will be closed Sept. 5, the county news release notes. Additionally, Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) will not operate its buses that day.
The Central County Landfill at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, the Sarasota County chemical collection center at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota and the Citizens Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be closed as well, the county news release says. In addition, the Sarasota County chemical collection center at 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice will be closed Sept. 5-6.
Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department staff is offering reminders “to help everyone have an enjoyable holiday weekend at their favorite public beaches,” the county release continues:
Beach visitors are asked to “pack out” all items and trash they “pack in” and to use the garbage and recycling receptacles located at beach entry points, pavilions and restrooms.
Grilling is allowed only on grills provided within a beach park, staff stresses. Furthermore, the news release says, for everyone’s safety, no glass bottles are allowed within a beach park.
