A Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus driver tested positive for COVID-19 on Aug. 16, the county has announced.

In consultation with the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota (DOH-Sarasota), SCAT has identified the route that the affected driver operated:

  • Saturday, Aug. 14 — Route 6, 6:40 a.m. to 2:10 p.m.

DOH-Sarasota is recommending that persons who rode that route on the date and between the times listed should monitor themselves for possible COVID-19 symptoms.

If a passenger suspects he or she has been exposed to the virus, or the person feels symptoms of COVID-19, the individual is encouraged to contact his or her healthcare provider or DOH-Sarasota, or visit one of the free testing sites, as follows:

  • The former Sarasota Kennel Club, located at 5400 Bradenton Road in Sarasota.
  • Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34th St. in Sarasota.
  • Dallas White Park, located at 5900 Greenwood Ave. in North Port.

“In accordance with operational procedures, SCAT buses are thoroughly sanitized nightly and cleaned throughout the day,” a county news release points out. SCAT bus operators have been provided face masks, gloves, hand sanitizer and operational changes, it adds.

“As a result of a federal mandate,” the release also notes,” all riders are required to wear masks.” Riders also should enter buses through the rear doors and practice social distancing while using SCAT, the release says.

SCAT staff asks that anyone who feels he or she may have COVID-19 symptoms refrain from using SCAT services.
