History Day in the Park planned March 25 in Phillippi Estate Park on South Tamiami Trail in Sarasota

Event to feature historical displays, Civil War encampment, antique farm machinery, quilts and food trucks, and Sarasota Concert Band

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, everyone is invited to Phillippi Estate Park in Sarasota for History Day in the Park, the organizers have announced.

“Join us for a day of history, fun and community at Phillippi Estate Park!” the event’s Facebook page says.

The event will feature the Sarasota Concert Band; Sailor Circus members; ChuckO the Clown; historical displays and archivists; a Civil War encampment; antique farm machinery; quilts; Bill Schustik, America’s Troubadour; costumed historical personages; a Children’s Circle; Florida authors; a pick-your-prize raffle; and food trucks and other vendors, a flyer notes.

Further, “History Day will fuel fund-raising to open a museum in the Historic Keith Farmhouse (1916) to exhibit prehistoric artifacts and historical items used on the estate,” the flyer points out.

Donations will be received gratefully, the flyer says.

“Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a fun day out, there’s something for everyone at this exciting event,” the Facebook page adds. “Don’t miss out, mark your calendars and get in on this exciting opportunity to connect with your community, learn something new and have a blast from the past!” it continues.

The sponsors of the event are Marilyn Gerkin, in memory of Robert J. Gerkin; Ann Van Cott; Sarasota County; and the Friends of Sarasota County Parks, the flyer notes.

Phillippi Estate Park is located at 5500 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.
