City and county administrative offices’ and facilities’ holiday schedules announced

No changes planned for collections of garbage, recycling and yard waste

City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 23; Monday, Dec. 26; and Monday, Jan. 2, 2023 in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the local governments have announced.

Garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup schedules for City of Sarasota residential and commercial customers and for Sarasota County customers will not be interrupted, news releases point out.

Holiday hours of operation at City of Sarasota recreational and cultural facilities will vary, as follows:

  • Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St. (941-263-6732) — closed Dec. 23-26 and Jan. 1; Jan. 2 — open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive (941-263-6386) — closed Dec. 23-26 and Jan. 1 and 2.
  • Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane (941-263-6641) — closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1; Dec. 23, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 — open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34th St. (941-263-6562) — closed Dec. 23-26 and Jan. 1; Jan. 2 — open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail (941-263-6799) — closed Dec. 24 and 25; Dec. 23, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 — open during regular hours, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The holiday schedule for various Sarasota County facilities and services also varies.

The Disaster Recovery Center located at the Shannon Staub Library — 4675 Career Lane in North Port — will be closed from Friday, Dec. 23, through Monday, Dec. 26, and from Saturday, Dec. 31, through Monday, Jan. 2.

The center will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 27 through Dec. 30. It will resume normal hours on Jan. 3 — 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The facility is closed on Sundays.

The Florida Department of Health-Sarasota will be closed Friday, Dec. 23, to Monday, Dec. 26; and on Monday, Jan. 2; it normally is closed on weekends.

Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT)

  • Saturday, Dec. 24 — Bus, SCAT Plus, OnDemand services and the Siesta Key Breeze Trolley will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 25 — Bus and SCATPlus services will be closed, while OnDemand and the Siesta Key Breeze Trolley will operate from 8 a. m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 31 — Bus, SCATPlus and OnDemand services will be on their regular schedules, while the Siesta Key Breeze Trolley will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Monday, Jan. 2 — Bus, SCATPlus and OnDemand services will be on their regular schedules. The Siesta Key Breeze Trolley will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Libraries and Historical Resources

All locations will be closed from Friday Dec. 23, through Monday, Dec. 26, and on Monday, Jan. 2.

Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources

  • Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range will be closed Saturday, Dec. 24, through Monday, Dec. 26; the range also will be closed on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023. It will resume regular hours on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023.
  • Recreation centers will be closed from Friday, Dec. 23, through Monday, Dec. 26; they also will be closed Monday, Jan. 2, 2023.

Solid Waste facilities

  • The Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center and The Re-Uz-It Shop located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota will be closed Dec. 24 through Dec. 26 and on Jan. 1.
  • The administrative office at the Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center will be closed Dec. 23-26 and on Jan. 2.
  • The Jackson Road Chemical Collection Center remains closed because of impacts from Hurricane Ian.
  • The Citizens’ Convenience Center standing at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be open on Saturday, Dec. 24, and Saturday, Dec. 31, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., but it will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
  • The Central County Landfill, located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, will be open on Saturday, Dec. 24, and Saturday, Dec. 31, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., but it will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. All persons unloading by hand must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the facility’s closing.
  • The administrative office at the Central County Landfill will be closed Dec. 23-26 and on Jan. 2.
