City and County of Sarasota administrative offices to close for Presidents Day, Feb. 19

City of Sarasota administrative offices and most Sarasota County Government offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 19, in observance of Presidents Day, the local governments have announced.

Garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup will continue as regularly scheduled, city and county news releases emphasize.

Hours of operation at city recreational and arts and cultural facilities will vary:

  • Bobby Jones Golf Club, located at 1000 Circus Blvd.,will be open for regular hours: 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed.
  • Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 John RiversSt., will be open for regular hours: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall box office,located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, will be open from10 a.m. through intermission of the evening show. Stayin’ Alive will take the stage at 8 p.m.

The regular City Commission meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20, with sessions at 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, located at 1565 First St.

All Sarasota County libraries will be closed, as well as Sarasota County recreational centers, with the exception of the following, a county news release says: Payne Park Tennis Center, which will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Arlington Park Recreation Center, which will be open from noon to 5 p.m.

Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) will be on a normal bus schedule, including the free Siesta Key Breeze service, but the customer service stations at SCAT Administration and the downtown transfer station will be closed, the release adds.

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County also will observe regular operating hours on Feb. 19, offering its full range of medical and public health services, the release points out. However, “Sarasota County Contracted Human Services and Veterans Services will be closed,” the release says.

The landfill at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be open, but the administrative office will be closed.

The Chemical Collection Center at 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice will be closed, as well, the release notes. The Citizens Convenience Center on Knights Trail Road and the Chemical Collection Center at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota will be open.
