Solid waste and yard waste collections to be delayed one day for Thursday and Friday customers
City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the local governments have announced.
Waste collection schedules will be affected by the holiday, both point out. No garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup will be conducted on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 24.
Collections will be delayed by one day in both the city and the county, their news releases point out:
The Thursday collections will occur one day later, on Friday, Nov. 25, while the Friday collections will take place on Saturday, Nov. 26, news releases say.
In the county, all solid waste facilities, including the Central County Landfill, the Citizens’ Convenience Center and the Chemical Collection Centers, will be closed on Nov. 24.
Hours of operation at City of Sarasota recreation and cultural arts facilities will vary, as follows:
- Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be closed Nov. 24 and 25.
- Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed Nov. 24 and 25.
- Nature Trails at Bobby Jones Golf Club, located at 1000 Circus Blvd., remain closed during the ongoing golf courserenovation and restoration project.
- Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane, will be closed Nov. 24 and 25.
- Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34th St., will be closed Nov. 24 and 25.
- The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, will be closed Thursday and reopen Friday at 10 a.m.
Sarasota County recreation centers will be closed Thursday and Friday.
The city’s Bay Runner trolley operates 8 a.m. to midnight every day of the year.
In the county, the Siesta Key Breeze trolley and OnDemand services will operate on their regular schedules daily. However, regular bus service will be suspended on Thanksgiving Day, the county news release says. Bus service will operate normally on Nov. 25.
The Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) administrative office and the downtown Sarasota transfer station customer service window will be closed Nov. 24-25, the county release adds.
Additionally, county staff points out, Libraries and Historical Resources Department facilities will be closed Nov. 24-25.
Libraries will resume normal operations on Saturday, Nov. 27, and Historical Resources will reopen on Monday, Nov. 28, the county news release says.
Further, the Knight Trail Park Pistol and Rifle Range will be closed Nov. 23-25. The range will resume normal hours — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ‘ on Friday, Nov. 26.
The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota (DOH-Sarasota) will be closed Nov 23-25, and reopen Monday, Nov. 28.
