This week, the Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast, which is based in Osprey, announced plans for the return of its monthly summer trivia series.

Beginning on May 17, each month will feature a different theme “with a variety of questions covering categories ranging from history and pop culture to science and nature,” a news release explains. The free community events will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the not-for-profit land trust’s Bay Preserve headquarters, the release adds.

Trivia competition will begin at 6 p.m., the release says. Teams may have up to eight members; “multi-generational teams are encouraged,” the release notes.

Additionally, each month a different food truck will be on-site, “offering tasty options for the whole family to enjoy,” the release continues. Further, one of the Conservation Foundation’s newest corporate partners, Sun King Brewery, will have representatives present with samples of the company’s award-winning craft beers, the release points out. “Be sure to stop by their Sarasota location on Thursday, May 30, when the brewery will be donating $1 to Conservation Foundation for every pint purchased,” the release adds.

The dates, themes and food trucks for the monthly trivia events are as follows:

  • Friday, May 17 — The theme will be “High and Dry: Florida’s Upland Habitats; food truck, Killik’s Kitchen.
  • Friday, June 21 — The theme will be “Wetland Wonders: Florida’s Freshwater Habitats”; the food truck will be Chick-N-Nooga.
  • Friday, July 19 — The theme will be “Saltwater Sanctuary: Florida’s Coastal Habitats”; the food truck will be Nas Philly Cheese Steaks.

“The winning team for each individual monthly event will receive a prize package,” the release notes. Points will be accumulated across the series, with the overall winning team receiving its choice of a private, guided hike or kayak trip for up to 10 people, the release says.

“The public is invited to come watch, play, or simply enjoy nature and food with family and friends. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and/or lawn chairs to sit upon for this outdoor, picnic-style gathering. In the event of rain, the trivia component will be moved to an area under cover,” the release points out. Learn more and RSVP at conservationfoundation.com/events.
