Disaster Recovery Center remains open at Municipal Auditorium in downtown Sarasota
This week, Sarasota County Government staff issued a number of updates regarding assistance for individuals affected by Tropical Storm Debby and Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
One week Left to Apply for FEMA assistance after Hurricane Debby
The deadline to apply for federal assistance for sustained loss from Hurricane Debby is Nov. 12, the news release said.
“Homeowners and renters in Sarasota County with losses from Hurricane Debby may be eligible for [Federal Emergency Management Agency] FEMA financial assistance for displacement, basic home repairs, personal property losses and other uninsured or underinsured disaster-caused expenses,” the release added.
“The quickest way to apply is to go online to DisasterAssistance.gov,” itcontinued. Persons also may apply using the FEMA App for mobile devices or by calling toll-free at 800-621-3362. “The telephone line is open every day,” with “help available in most languages,” the release pointed out.
“If you use a relay service, captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service,” it said.

The application deadline for Hurricane Helene is Nov. 27; for Hurricane Milton, it is Dec. 11, the release emphasized.
Disaster Recovery Center
The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is open Sunday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium, which stands at 801 N. Tamiami Trail in downtown Sarasota, the release continued.
“The site at the Sarasota Christian Church is no longer open,” the release reminded the public.

Operation Blue Roof
“The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is installing fiber-reinforced sheeting to cover damaged roofs until arrangements can be made for permanent repairs to damaged homes across affected Florida communities,” the release further noted.
The service is free, with the sign-up period extended to Nov. 14, the release stressed.
Florida Residents affected by Hurricane Milton can sign-up at www.blueroof.gov, by calling 888-ROOF-BLU (888-766-3258), or by visiting a Right-of-Entry collection center throughout the affected areas.
