The Disaster Recovery Center, which has been located at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium (801 N. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota) will be relocating to the Venice Community Center as of Monday, Dec. 16, Sarasota County staff has announced.

The Venice Community Center is located at 326 Nokomis Ave. S. in Venice.

Operations at the Venice facility will run through Jan. 10, 2025, staff has reported. The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

“The final day of operation at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium will be Dec. 14,” staff notes.

Although the deadline to apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Individual Assistance is Jan. 7, 2025, staff says, community members will be able to ask questions about their applications through Jan. 10 at the relocated Disaster Recovery Center.

“Homeowners and renters are encouraged to apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by using the FEMA App, staff points out. “You may also apply by phone at 800-621-3362,” the advisory points out. “Lines are open every day and help is available in most languages. If you use a relay service, captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.”

The advisory further notes, “For an accessible video on how to apply for assistance, go to FEMA Accessible: Applying for Individual Assistance — YouTube.”

The advisory also reminds property owners, “If you had damage from Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, you will need to apply separately for both disasters and provide the dates of your damage for each.”
