Event to start at 5 p.m. on Aug. 25
Back by popular demand, on Friday, Aug. 25, the Jah Movement will headline the third Friday Fest of the summer on the bayfront lawn of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota, the Van Wezel has announced.
The event will begin at 5 p.m. and conclude at 9 p.m., a news release says. Entry to Friday Fest is free.
When the Jah Movement made its Friday Fest debut last summer, the band members performed for a record-breaking audience, the release adds. Winner of Creative Loafing’s 2016 recognition as Best Local Reggae Band, Jah Movement includes vocalist Shantel Norman, a “hometown hero, who will be celebrating her birthday with this Friday Fest party,” the release points out.
The band combines R&B, soul and funk to create “some of the best live reggae music,” the release adds.
Members of the public are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs so they can take in the music along with the Sarasota sunset; food and beverages will be provided by local vendors.
Friday Fest will take place rain or shine, the release points out; in the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors to the grand foyer or main stage of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.
Outside food and drinks, coolers and large umbrellas are prohibited, the release notes.
