The voter registration and party change deadline is Monday, July 20 — only two weeks away — for citizens wishing to vote in the Aug. 18 Primary Election, Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner is reminding voters.

“Florida law requires that any voter wishing to vote in an upcoming election must be registered at least 29 days prior to the election,” a news release points out. “Registering to vote is quick and easy and can be done online, in person or by mail,” the release adds.

“Likewise, in Florida, a voter wishing to vote for a party candidate in a primary election must be registered with the party before the voter registration deadline, which is the 29th day before an election,” the release points out.

After the registration books have been closed for an election, the release continues, “new registrations and party changes will be accepted but only for future elections.”

“I always tell voters that there is something for everyone in a primary election — regardless of party affiliation,” Turner said in the release. “However, if you want to vote in a party’s primary, you must be a registered member of that party at least 29 days prior to the election. The July 20th deadline is fast approaching, and I want all Sarasota County voters to be aware of the requirement before it’s too late,” he added in the release.
