Hours will be 1 to 5 p.m.

The Sarasota Police Department will host its annual Done with the Gun firearm turn-in event on Saturday, July 11, “providing community members with a safe and anonymous way to dispose of unwanted firearms,” the agency has announced.
“Gun locks will be available while supplies last,” a news release notes.
The event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at 2099 Adams Lane in Sarasota, which is the site of the Police Department headquarters, the release says.
Participants must ensure that “all firearms are unloaded and remain inside their vehicles upon arrival at the drop-off location,” the release explains. “Officers will retrieve firearms directly from vehicles. No one should remove a firearm from a vehicle in the drop-off area,” it points out.
Officers will accept a variety of items, including non-working firearms, antiques, replicas, pellet guns and BB guns, the release says. Then, with emphasis, it points out, “This event is for firearms only. Ammunition, flares and fireworks will not be accepted. These items can be safely disposed of at any of Sarasota County’s chemical collection centers.”
The release also notes, “All firearms that are collected will be safely destroyed and removed from circulation.”
