A second informational meeting regarding proposed enhancements to the Lido Beach Pavilion, located at 400 Ben Franklin Drive in Sarasota, will be held on Thursday, Aug. 18, at 5:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, city staff has announced.

The public is invited to attend the session, a news release says. City Hall is located at 1565 First St. in downtown Sarasota.

During the meeting, representatives of Lido Beach Redevelopment Partners LLC will make a presentation about their response to an Invitation to Negotiate issued by the City of Sarasota for the Pavilion. “The Invitation to Negotiate was designed to attract proposals to boost the Lido Beach Pavilion as a recreation destination for residents and visitors,” the release points out.

Results from a community survey about the proposal, undertaken in March, also will be presented, the release notes. Additionally, “key points from the Lido Key Residents Association’s study in 2012 will be reviewed,” the release says.

  1. Refurbishing the Lido Beach pavilion might be a good short term move but the long term goal should be to replace it with a duplicate of the former Lido Casino, based on original plans and archive photos, updated for code compliance and modern technology. The facility would become the major community asset the former Casino was in its day.
