Meghan Farrell named new program manager for Benderson Park

Her new responsibilities include adding activities to draw more people to the venue, SANCA says

The former varsity women’s coach for Sarasota Scullers has been named the new program manager for Nathan Benderson Park, Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates Inc. (SANCA) has announced.

Meghan Farrell will be responsible for maintaining the current programming “and building upon it to add more activities that will appeal to a diverse audience of beginner, intermediate and advanced fitness and outdoor enthusiasts residing in the community,” a SANCA news release says.

SANCA manages all the activities at the county-owned park under an agreement with Sarasota County.

“We are excited to have Meghan join us to help expand the roster of activities and programs we offer the community,” said Bob Whitford, SANCA’s director of facilities and operations, in the release. “We are confident she will be able to broaden our programming opportunities to draw more people out to the park on a regular basis.”

Benderson Park will host the World Rowing Championships in 2017.

As a coach for Sarasota Scullers, the release says, Farrell saw two of her teams qualify for USRowing’s Youth Nationals competition, the release adds.

She holds both a Bachelor of Science and a master’s degree in adult education, with an emphasis in intercollegiate athletic administration, from the University of Oklahoma (OU), the release notes. As an undergraduate, she rowed with the university’s women’s varsity team for four years. As a graduate assistant, she served as OU Rowing’s director of operations and graduate assistant coach, the release points out.
A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Farrell began her rowing career with Tempe Junior Crew, the release says.
