More than 6,300 county citizens recorded as taking advantage of early voting through Aug. 11

Through Aug. 11, more than 6,300 voters had cast their ballots for the Aug. 18 Primary Election, Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner reported on Aug. 12.

Turner is reminding voters that several days remain to cast their ballots early the election.

In-person early voting will run daily through Sunday, Aug. 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at six sites throughout Sarasota County, as noted below.

“Early voting is a very popular way to vote,” Turner pointed out in a news release. Referencing the votes cast through Aug. 11, he added, “That’s a great start, but with five early voting days remaining, I’m hoping we see many more voters take advantage of this convenient option.”

Turner also pointed out that during the early voting period, citizens may cast their ballots at any early voting site in the county.

The early voting sites are as follows:

  • Downtown Sarasota in the Terrace Building, which stands at 2001 Adams Lane.
  • The Venice Elections Office, which is located at 4000 S. Tamiami Trail, within the Robert L. Anderson Administration Center.
  • The North Port Elections Office, which stands at 13640 Tamiami Trail in North Port.
  • The Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library, which is located at 2801 Newtown Blvd. in Sarasota.
  • Colonial Oaks Park, which stands at 5300 Colonial Oaks Blvd. in Sarasota.
  • Gulf Gate Library, which is located at 7112 Curtiss Ave. in Sarasota.

“Florida is a closed primary state, which means only voters who are registered members of a political party may vote in that party’s primary election,” Turner also is reminding citizens. “Still, there’s something for every voter in this election, regardless of party affiliation, including countywide races for three school board seats, and for City of Sarasota voters there will be two at-large city commission seats.”

Further, Turner pointed out, the Aug. 18 Primary Election sample ballot is available online. Voters may review their sample ballots by visiting SarasotaVotes.gov.
