A ceremony marking the addition of new playground equipment at Pioneer Park in Sarasota will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, the City of Sarasota has announced.

“A suspicious fire destroyed the previous playground” in February, a news release points out.

The new playground, created by Playcraft Systems with a treehouse theme, features multiple slides, arch swings, tree climbers, a spider net climber and a SpinMAX Spherical Spinner — the first of its kind, according to manufacturer — the release says.

Separate areas of the playground have been designed for children ages 2 to 5 and those 5 to 12, the release adds.

Another feature of the facility, called FreeNotes, has freestanding musical components, including drums and flower-shaped harmony bells.

Pioneer Park is located at 1260 12th St. in Sarasota.
