On Tuesday, Oct. 13, leaders of the Sarasota County Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA) will present a program in Venice in an effort to educate the public about the proposed state and local referenda on the Nov. 3 General Election ballot, they have announced.

Those initiatives, a news release points out, “could have long-term impacts on Sarasota County.”

The session will be conducted from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Youth Activity Room of Jacaranda Library, which stands at 4143 Woodmere Park Blvd. in Venice, the release says.

“After a packed house at our September meeting at Gulf Gate Library,” the release continues, “CONA is bringing this important program to South County for our members and residents who could not attend in September.”

Two guest speakers have been invited to offer remarks, as well, the release notes:

  • “Sarasota County Commissioner Tom Knightwill discuss the property tax measure, what it could mean for Sarasota taxpayers, and what voters are being asked to decide. Look for Constitutional Amendment No. 3 on the back of your ballot.”
  • Former Sarasota County Commissioner Jon Thaxtonwill discuss the referendum concerning environmentally sensitive lands, “including what voters are being asked to approve and the purpose of the program. These are the last two questions on the back of the ballot: County Referendum and County Bond Referendum.”

The release explains, “Our goal is simple: to help voters understand the questions they will see on their ballots before they enter the voting booth.”

It adds, “The meeting is free and open to the public. Please join us — and bring your questions.”
