Free, family-friendly event planned from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The staff of the Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources Department is inviting members of the public to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Gulf Gate Library’s new facility on Saturday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the county has announced.
The library stands at 7112 Curtiss Ave. in Sarasota.
“This free, family-friendly event will feature live entertainment, interactive activities and delicious refreshments in a festive luau-themed setting,” a news release notes.
“Originally established in 1973 as the Betty Service Branch Library, Gulf Gate Library has grown from a modest storefront into one of Sarasota County’s most cherished community institutions,” the release adds. The new facility, which was built in 2015, “was recognized by Tech Insider as the ‘most beautiful library in Florida,’ ” the release points out. “Today, it continues to serve as a hub for education, technology and community engagement,” the release says.
“Last year, the library welcomed more than 88,000 visitors and loaned 77,700 materials, reinforcing its role as a vibrant gathering space for learning, collaboration and enrichment,” the release notes.
“Gulf Gate Library is more than a place for books. It’s a cornerstone of the community, a space for lifelong learning, meaningful connections and enriching experiences,” said Renée Di Pilato, director of Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources, in the release. “As we celebrate 10 years in this incredible facility, we invite everyone to join us for a day of fun and reflect on the library’s lasting impact,” she added.
