Publix Super Markets Charities recently awarded a grant of $335,000 to All Faiths Food Bank for the purchase of a new, 26-foot-long refrigerated box truck and mobile food pantry support, All Faiths has announced.

“The truck will allow All Faiths to strengthen its mobile pantry capacity, provide the flexibility to increase store food pick-ups, and enable the organization to distribute more nutritious food in areas of greatest need across the community,” a news release explains.

“On the front lines of All Faiths’ efforts to end hunger are its truck drivers, who travel as many as 350 miles each week to deliver nutritious food to dozens of locations throughout Sarasota and DeSoto counties,” the release points out.

“Last year alone,” the release continues, the food bank held, or supplied food for, 725 food distributions each month, providing more than 20 million meals to more than 80,000 residents. “All Faiths’ fleet of refrigerated box trucks is critical to ensuring the organization can reach as many community members as possible” with healthful foods, such as meat, dairy products and fresh produce, the release adds.

“The logistics of securing and delivering food — especially fresh groceries — is complicated,” said All Faiths President and CEO Nelle S. Miller in the release. “This support from Publix Super Markets Charities is critical in increasing our ability to reach more of our neighbors in need, more efficiently,” Miller added. “We are grateful for the organization’s many years of generosity and partnership.”
