Event to be held at noon via Zoom
The League of Women Voters of Manatee County and the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area will host a virtual candidate forum via Zoom at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 23, for candidates running in Congressional District 16, the nonprofit organizations have announced.
“Recent redistricting has significantly reshaped Florida’s Congressional District 16,” a news release points out. “It now includes all of Manatee, DeSoto, and Hardee counties,” as well as parts of Sarasota, Pinellas, and Polk counties, the release notes. “The League has been working diligently to reach voters in these newly added areas to ensure that all voters have access to reliable, nonpartisan information,” the release adds.
“The candidate forum will allow voters to hear directly from candidates Mark Davis (NPA), Sydney Gruters (R), and Kelly Kirschner (D) about the issues that matter most to voters” in U.S. Congressional District 16, ahead of the Nov. 3 General Election, the release says.
“Registration to attend this virtual forum is required,” the release points out. Members of the public interested in attending the forum must register here. The event “is free and open to the public,” the release notes.
The forum will be recorded by the League, the release adds. However, except for those captured by registered representatives of the press, no recordings will be allowed, the release stresses.
“Trevor Pettiford, veteran journalist and member of the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists, will guide the discussion,” the release continues. Candidates will answer questions developed by the League of Women Voters, it says, along with those that the public submitted prior to Sept. 16. “All candidate forums sponsored by the League of Women Voters follow a nonpartisan, unbiased, and impartial format, in keeping with League principles,” the release also explains.
