‘Pack the Patrol Car’ school supply drive underway in city of Sarasota for ninth year

With most students in Sarasota County scheduled to return to school on Aug. 10, the Sarasota Police Department, in partnership with the Sarasota City YMCA, “is asking residents to help ‘Pack the Patrol Car’ with new school supplies for the upcoming school year.”

This initiative will mark the agency’s “ninth annual school supply drive before students head back to class,” a Police Department news release points out.

The Sarasota Police Department and the Sarasota City YMCA will accept school supply donations through Friday, July 31, the release notes. New school supplies may be dropped off at the following locations or purchased online, it adds:

  • Sarasota Police Department, standing at 2099 Adams Lane in downtown Sarasota (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
  • Sarasota City YMCA, located at 1075 S. Euclid Ave. in Sarasota. (Visit website for hours.)

“Following the ‘Pack the Patrol Car’ school supply drive, members of the Sarasota Police Department will distribute donated school supplies to students throughout the community before school begins Aug. 10,” the release points out.

“The Sarasota Police Department is accepting new school supplies for students of all ages and grade levels,” the release says. Among the items that will be welcomed are backpacks, glue, notebooks, paper, calculators, pencils, pens, colored pencils, crayons, erasers, rulers, folders and highlighters,” the release adds.

Members of the Sarasota Police Department will sort the donations by grade level before distributing them to students, the release notes.
