Pickleball comes to Cedars Tennis Resort and Club on Longboat Key

Three clay courts open

Three clay pickleball courts have been created at Cedars Tennis Resort and Club on Longboat Key, which is located at 645 Cedars Court, the club’s management announced on Oct. 13.

The new courts are being added “to guarantee that our club offers the finest and most requested amenities to our members,” owner Larry Starr said in a news release. “Pickleball has definitely been rapidly increasing in popularity,” he added. In fact, the release notes, the USA Pickleball Association (usapickleball.org) reports an annual average growth rate of 11.5% over the past five years.

“And the clay surface offers a lower impact experience, with less stress on the knees,” Starr added in the release.

“Located just off Gulf of Mexico Drive, Cedars offers more than tennis and pickleball,” Starr points out in the release,

“These courts are a great addition to our facility, which features Har Tru tennis courts and is home to a fitness club, the Hugo II restaurant and a junior Olympic-sized pool, complete with tiki bar,” Starr said.

With renovations underway, the club plans a grand opening in coming weeks, the release notes. Members soon will be receiving more information, and announcements will be made to the general public after a more definitive completion date is known, the release explains. Starr suggests monitoring local publications and social media for updates.
