16 events to be held in January and first half of February 2025
Registration is open for the 36th annual Gulf Coast Games for Life (Senior Games), Sarasota County Government staff has announced.
Events will take place in January and February 2025 “across Sarasota and Manatee counties,” as well as in North Port, a news release says.
The games are open to amateur athletes who will be 50 or older as of Dec. 31, 2025, the release explains. “The 16 events will begin with the 5K Road Race on Jan. 18, 2025,” it adds. They will continue from Jan. 26 through Feb. 15, 2025.
The registration deadline for that first event is Jan. 4, 2025, the release continues. Each event will close two weeks prior to the date it will occur.
Among the popular events are the following, the release notes: basketball shooting, cycling, rowing and paddling, shuffleboard, swimming, and table tennis.
Each participant must pay a one-time registration fee of $13. Then, the fee for each event is $4, the release points out. “Additional facility fees may apply,” the release adds.
The Gulf Coast Games for Life is a qualifying event for the 2025 Florida Senior Games Championships, which will take place in December 2025, the release notes. This program represents a partnership among the Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department, Manatee County Sports and Leisure Services, and the City of North Port Parks and Recreation Department, the release says.
