To get best price, sign up by Nov. 16, county staff advising
Members of the public are being invited to kick off the holiday season “by participating in the 46th annual Sandy Claws Beach Run on Siesta Beach, Saturday, Dec. 10.”
Individuals may register by Nov. 16 to guarantee the best price, a Sarasota County news release says. Each person also will receive “a long-sleeve performance event T-shirt and runner bag,” the release adds.
“With many participants typically wearing fun holiday costumes, this annual event presented by Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources, Friends of Sarasota County Parks, and Dr. Heidi K. Anderson-DOCS, draws hundreds of runners, walkers and joggers for the 5K race and one-mile fun run,” the release points out.
The 5K race is chip-timed, the release notes. Finisher medals will be given to the 5K participants, while the participants in the 1-mile event will receive ribbons. Custom awards will be distributed to those who finish in first through sixth place in all age categories, the release adds.
Following the races, runners are invited to stay for music, food and raffle prizes. All runners are also welcome to participate in a holiday-themed costume contest, the release says.
The 5K run is sanctioned by the Manasota Track Club. Proceeds benefit the Summer in the Parks Adopt-A-Camper scholarship program, the release notes.

Early packet pickup will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8, at the New Balance Sarasota store, which is located at 1872 Stickney Point Road.
The 1-mile fun run will start at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K run at 8:20 a.m., the release says. The holiday-themed costume contest winners and race awards will be announced starting at 9:15 a.m.
Siesta Beach is located at 948 Beach Road on Siesta Key.
