Rothenbach Park has reopened following its use as county hurricane debris management site

Facility on Bee Ridge Road has playgrounds, picnic areas and outdoor fitness equipment

Sarasota County’s Rothenbach Park reopened on Feb. 22, “after serving as a vital debris management site since October 2022, following impacts of Hurricane Ian,” county staff has announced.

Designating the facility a debris management site enabled the county’s debris contractors to stage, and reduce the volume of, vegetative materials collected from northern areas of unincorporated Sarasota County, a news release explains.

On Feb. 27, the county website did note that the road to the south parking lot remained closed for asphalt repairs.

Located at 8650 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota “Rothenbach Park is home to playgrounds, picnic areas, restrooms, and outdoor fitness equipment,” the release points out. “The park is a great place for birding and wildlife viewing,” as well as cycling and running, as it has 4 miles of paved trails, the release adds.

The R/C Squadron airfield is open, too, county staff says, but that area of the park may be accessed only by authorized users.
