Child welfare agency Safe Children Coalition recently was notified that it has achieved reaccreditation through the Council on Accreditation (COA), a service of Social Current, the nonprofit has announced.

Additionally, the organization learned that the reaccreditation “was expedited through the Pre-Commission Review Report (PCR) process” because the Safe Children Coalition had not received “any out-of-compliance ratings in any of the fundamental practice standards,” a news release explains.

“We are proud to recognize Safe Children Coalition Inc. as an outstanding organization that has met high performance standards and made a commitment to delivering quality services,” noted Social Current President and CEO Jody Levison-Johnson in the release. “You should all take enormous pride in this accomplishment,” she continued. “We wish you the very best in your continuing work with the individuals you serve.”

The release explains, “COA accreditation promotes trust and reassures an organization’s stakeholders — including donors, partners, government agencies, and clients — of an organization’s commitment to high standards, accountability, and continuous quality improvement in service delivery. The thorough review confirms that an organization adheres to best practices. It also recognizes an organization’s commitment to training and professional development opportunities for staff,” making the employees even more effective in their roles, the release points out.

“We are honored and proud not just to have earned reaccreditation but also to have been expedited due to being in compliance in all fundamental practice standards,” said SCC President and CEO Brena Slater in the release. “This is a testament to our incredible staff and volunteer board of directors, all of whom care deeply about and work hard to ensure our programs and services are aligned with the best practices in the field,” she added in the release.

“The Council on Accreditation is an international nonprofit organization that accredits human and social service providers in best practices” for child welfare and behavioral health, along with community-based human and social service providers, the release notes.

“For the public, referral sources and providers, a COA accreditation is an indication that an agency’s programs are designed and delivered in a way that provides the highest level of quality care and excellence,” the release says.

Safe Children Coalition works to protect children and youth and strengthen families in Florida’s Circuit 12 (Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties), the release explains. In 2024, the organization served more than 9,300 children and families “through its foster care, adoption, and prevention and diversion programs.”
