Libraries and History Center to be closed on May 7 for work to take place

The Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources Department “is launching a new and improved catalog system,” which will provide an enhanced experience for users, county staff has announced.
This upgraded platform will make it “easier and more enjoyable to discover the library’s vast collection of books, audiobooks, DVDs and more across formats,” a news release points out.
In preparation for this system switch-over, all Sarasota County libraries, plus the History Center, will be closed on Wednesday, May 7, the release adds.
The new library catalog will feature the following, the release says:
- Unified title display — “See all available formats of a title, including print, digital and audio, conveniently listed in one place.
- Series information —Easily discover whether a book is part of a series and, if so, “see the complete reading order, including cover art,” the release notes.
- Personalized recommendations —“Explore the ‘You May Also Like’ section to find similar authors, titles and series that match your interests,” the release says.
- Enhanced information for children’s books —Parents and young readers will be able view details, “such as Lexile measures, Accelerated Reader (AR) scores and recommended age and grade levels,” the release continues.
“We are excited to offer this dynamic new catalog experience to our community,” said Renée Di Pilato, director of Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources, in the release. “Our goal is to make it easier than ever for our patrons to find what they love, explore new interests, and enjoy all the resources our libraries have to offer,” she added. “This upgrade is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance accessibility, discovery and lifelong learning.”
The release further notes, “Patrons can look forward to a seamless transition and enjoy these features from the comfort of their homes or during their visits to any of the 10 community library branches, the History Center and the Pop-Up Library.”
