The Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources Department this week announced that it has begun offering “expanded access to ABCmouse, an award-winning digital learning platform.”

Children may access the platform for free from any site with an internet connection, the May 6 news release pointed out.

“Previously, use was restricted to a county library,” the release explained. Designed for children ages 2 to 8, ABCmouse features more than 10,000 games, books and videos involving reading, math, science and art, the release says.

“To use the platform,” the release points out, “visit SarasotaCountyLibraries.org/littles, click the ABCmouse icon, and log in with a library card number and PIN.”

“This program is being funded by $28,371 in grants from the Koski Family Foundation and the Bladel Charitable Trust through the Library Foundation for Sarasota County (LFSC), providing free access to ABCmouse for two years,” the release noted. Since its launch, the release continued, patrons have completed more than 1,000 activities and spent more than 80 hours on the platform.

“By moving this resource beyond library walls, Sarasota County Libraries continues to enhance its suite of early learning tools, providing families with flexible, high-quality support to help young learners stay motivated and prepared for school success,” said Renee Di Pilato, director of Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources, in the release.

“We’re grateful to these donors for supporting early literacy in our libraries,” added Alisa Mitchell, executive director of LFSC, in the release. “These grants will fund free multi-year access to ABCmouse, ensuring thousands of children have access to age-appropriate learning tools and equitable opportunities for school success across Sarasota County,” Mitchell said.

The Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources Department is a system of 10 libraries, a history center and a mobile library, the release pointed out. Together, those facilities “offer lifelong learning, vibrant cultural experiences, and enriching activities for all ages,” it noted.
